Pierre LORRY (1866-1956)
Enfin, on ne peut omettre de signaler la présence, à côté de la gare d’arrivée du téléphérique, d’une stèle à la mémoire des trois géologues fondateurs de la géologie alpine (fin du 19° et première moitié du 20° siècle), savoir :
Pierre Lory, Wilfrid Kilian et Pierre Termier.
Il fut president du CAF itère 1906 – 1937.
Avec l’arrivée de W. Kilian à Grenoble, commence une nouvelle période de l’histoire de la géologie alpine, qui est d’abord celle de la stratigraphie triomphante, une nécessité absolue en vue de l’exploration systématique de la chaîne et de sa cartographie. Les doutes sur la méthode sont dépassés, la terminologie trop lithologique des formations fait place à une nomenclature stratigraphique plus rigoureuse. L’analyse peut ainsi progresser.
Dès son arrivée, Kilian l’entreprend en se chargeant personnellement des chaînes subalpines dauphinoises et de la 2e zone de Ch. Lory, c’est-à-dire le front des zones internes entre Moûtiers et la haute Ubaye, tandis que son ami, Emile Haug, alsacien comme lui, qu’il avait connu à Strasbourg et Paris mais qui était resté à Paris, se charge des chaînes subalpines entre Gap et Digne. Divers collaborateurs interviennent aussi : Victor Paquier pour le Diois, Pierre Lory (fils de Charles) pour le Dévoluy, Joseph Révil pour la Savoie, dont il deviendra le meilleur connaisseur bien que simple amateur (il était pharmacien à Chambéry), Charles Jacob et Paul Fallot, tous deux préparateurs un certain temps à Grenoble (le second y devint même maître de conférences pendant un an, en 1922, à l’issue de sa thèse, juste avant sa nomination comme professeur à l’Université de Nancy).

Finally, we can not fail to note the presence , alongside the arrival station of the cable car, a monument to the memory of the three founders of the Alpine geologists geology ( late 19th and first half of the 20th century ) , namely:
Pierre Lory , Wilfrid Kilian and Peter Termier .
